Being brutally honest; I recall the first time trying beers from “Hair Of The Dog”. This was early on in my pre-beer geekiness years. Putting the bottle to my mouth, i got a whiff of an aroma and combined with the taste made me cough, if not gag, quiet a bit. Needless to say that I stayed away from all things related to “Hair Of The Dog”.

Years later, after the maturity of my taste buds; I took part in a brown bag tasting. The event is one where you try different types of beers and make notes about them. The end of the event is called ‘The Reveal’. It is where you find out what you have tasted. I was quiet surprised to see that a beer made by “Hair Of The Dog’ was rated better then I would have in my pre-beer geekiness days. The beer was called Fred. It is brownish-yellow in colour, sweet almost cider like and coated the tongue. Finishes with an alcohol burn.

I recommend this task to one and all. Try a beer from a brewer you did not like the first time. You may be surprised at the result.
