Firestone Walker Vertical Anniversary Tasting
X, XI, XII, XIII & IVX
Recently I had the pleasure of participating in a vertical anniversary tasting of Firestone Walker Beers. Accompanying First Maat, we boarded the Metro at Universal City Station. Departing at Hollywood and Vine, we walked a couple of blocks to the Blue Palms Brew House. The anniversary beers are all barrel aged blended releases.
In full disclosure, Cap’n is partial to barrel aged beers. He likes a hearty, ‘powerful’ taste. The one’s sampled certainly fit this bill. It is also believed as these beers age, more of the barrel aged robustness comes thru.

special thanks to First Maat for the picture!
1) 11th Anniversary
Since this was aged in a bourbon/brandy barrel, I believe the brandy part smoothed out the overall bourbon flavour. This would be the favourite of the evening.
2) 12th Anniversary
Aged in a whiskey/bourbon barrel. Strong on the pallet due to the whiskey. Also had oatmeal stout as a complement. Came in a VERY close second.
3) 13th Anniversary
Also aged in a whiskey/bourbon barrel. Parabola was a bit over powering, yet since it was younger then the 11th & 12th not as robust. Should age nicely.
4) 14th Anniversary
The Four-Hopped ale. The aroma was very good. Spicy with strong flavour. It will become more robust over time.
5) Rufus
This was the last of the night. Totally enjoyable
As always, thanks for taking the time to read this blog. Until the nest voyage.
